Dedicated to the young men and women who are engulfed in darkness and longing for the light

The Savior of Norfolk

Christian Young Adult Fantasy

A vanishing boy, human-animal hybrids, and the grisly murder of one’s peers are a lot to handle. Existing in two worlds, being hunted by your town’s killer, and nearly dying every day doesn’t make it any easier. For 15-year-old Stephen Benson, all of this has become normal, managing one life as a town outcast and another as a fantasy land hero. Hopeless and depressed, will he overcome his inner demons and the outer evil hounding his spirit? Will he listen to the child-penguin fairy? Will he save the girl he loves and prevent the slaughter of more teens?

The Savior of Norfolk is set in the not-too-distant future when America has been divided by political and ideological hate. It is a fresh take on understanding the purpose of existence and suffering and wrestles with a spiritual understanding of reality.

Throughout The Savior of Norfolk, Stephen Benson encounters characters who guide him along his journey.

Parrhesia is captain of the King’s First Regiment. With a head like that of an eagle, an upper body like that of a gorilla, and a lower body like that of a grizzly bear, Parrhesia leads the other eleven soldiers of the KFR, all animal hybrids that stand, walk, and move like humans. When not protecting the King’s Elected, Parrhesia and his fellow comrades engage in battle against the evil one’s soldiers, reptile hybrids out to destroy the King’s chosen ones.

Brandon Daily is Norfolk High’s bully. He has an eye out for Stephen and has made Stephen’s school years a terror from giving Stephen swirlies in the school restroom to wedgies in the school cafeteria. Being twice the size of Stephen in muscle and having more friends than Stephen, his attacks are difficult for Stephen to withstand.

Dulcé is the strangest yet cutest creature Stephen has ever seen. Having a body similar to a penguin but having the head of a six-year-old girl and the wings of a fairy, she flies the sky with the other angelettes singing songs of encouragement to those journeying King’s Island. Her healing powers and words of wisdom keep Stephen moving forward amidst his difficult trials.

Emily Burnheart is Stephen’s love interest. In many ways, including her attitude and popularity, she is different than Stephen, but the two share more in common than Stephen could have ever imagined. Despite being obsessed with Emily, Stephen has avoided her at all costs, fearing he’ll humiliate himself in front of her. Emily, however, is determined to not let Stephen’s avoidance continue.
